Making HR simpler: real stories and practical tips
With Lucy Adams and Claire McLean, hosted by Bharat Siyani
14th October, 10am | 60 mins
Join Lucy Adams, former BBC HR Director and CEO of Disruptive HR, and Claire McLean, Founder and CEO of Realise HR for real stories and practical tips on how small and medium businesses are making HR simpler and creating more time for strategic work. Hosted by Bharat Siyani, VP of People & Culture at Breathe.
When HR and people operations are owned by one person, or a small HR team, everyday HR processes and routine people tasks often take up more time and resource than they should. Chasing managers, checking information, updating records, correcting errors and answering repeat questions can leave little time for important people work and business growth initiatives.
In this session, Lucy Adams, former BBC HR Director and CEO of Disruptive HR and Claire McLean, Founder and CEO of Realise HR, will share real examples of how small and medium businesses are making everyday HR simpler, and how you can apply these learnings in your workplace.
You’ll leave with practical ideas you can use to make your HR processes more manageable, gain time back and create a better experience for all your employees.

Routine HR work like answering questions, chasing updates and checking records leaves less time for employee relations, employee engagement and other strategic work. It also makes it harder to stay legally compliant as the business grows and employment law changes.
In this session, you'll hear real examples of how other HR professionals in small and medium businesses are reducing pressure, creating time for important people work and building processes that are easier for everyone to follow.
The impact of complicated HR processes reaches beyond the HR team. Inconsistent records, unclear ownership and missed actions create compliance problems, costly disputes and slower decisions. They also create a poor employee experience that impacts employee retention and company culture.
In this session, you'll hear practical ways to reduce avoidable risk and support business growth, ensuring that your growing business isn't being held back by complex and time-consuming processes.
If HR sits alongside operations, office management or other responsibilities, it can quickly become hard to manage and start to absorb time that's needed elsewhere. Repeated questions, chasing and unclear handovers can make it difficult to know who owns what and keep things moving.
In this session, you'll hear useful tips to help make everyday people processes clearer, more consistent and easier to manage alongside the rest of your role.
