“Performance Management is not just about tackling underperformance but about creating a culture where good performance is encouraged and incentivised.”

Organisations today know that outstanding business achievement requires the best possible performance by every team and every employee. Individuals, teams and organisations all depend on relevant feedback to improve the way they perform.

Performance Management is a process which contributes to the effective management of individuals and teams in order to achieve high levels of organisational performance. As such, it establishes shared understanding about what is to be achieved and an approach to leading and developing people which will ensure that it is achieved.

Most jobs these days contain an element of working towards targets or goals; these can be personal or companywide. These are targets that should be monitored and adapted over a given time period. So why is it that some companies don’t keep on top of such an important HR process?

A performance appraisal should be a positive experience and should contribute to the overall welfare your company. If the process is done properly, performance appraisals are a very effective tool to improve performance and productivity, and for developing employees. It helps individuals to do better, raises self-esteem and motivation. Above all it strengthens the management/employee bond and nurtures commitment.

Appraisals should be a rolling process that goes on all the time - a process that is based on good communication between manager and employee. More time should be spent on preventing performance problems throughout the year than evaluating them at the end of the year. When managers "keep their finger on the pulse", the appraisal is comfortable and easy to do, because there won't be any surprises.

By adopting an Online HR system you can reduce the stress involved in managing employee performance, organising 1 to 1 meetings and keeping records of these meetings.
