CIPD goes for the sound-bite with gloomy forecast!

Posted by Rachel on 14 November, 2011

forecast-sml.jpgToday's announcement by the CIPD of its forecast for jobs in the UK offered a sound-bite that would do justice to many politicians.

Given that the CIPD are talking about a lack of confidence to invest (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15715460), it doesn't help us (their members) one bit for them to be talking about a 'slow and painful contraction'.  Thanks CIPD, we know what it's like out here so how about just reporting the facts and offering some support.  No surprises then that they are getting a load of publicity around that one phrase.

I heard it on the Radio 4 Today programme this morning (why do I still listen?).  Today did a classic piece of down beat journalism by 'testing' the CIPDs comments in contacting a single company who amazingly met all the criteria being talked about!  When the CEO wouldn't slag off the Government's policy the interviewer led him towards the comments they wanted.

There - that's my Monday morning rant over.  I can now get on with my week.
